vonage was found guilty of copyright enfringment and ordered to pay verizon $58m. verizon had originally asked for almost 200m. verizon had also sued vonage last year for the same thing, when they infringed upon 3 out of 5 patents they had used to make their voip functional. verizon would have a chance to collect triple the amount if vonage had willfully infringed, but it was ruled that they didn’t.
It’s kind of hard to fell sorry for them when they did the exact same thing wrong a year earlier, even if it was an accident. maybe they’ll do their homework better this time.
